I've just experienced that awkward moment when you discover several of your friends are using drugs.... Jun 16, 2013 at 7:21 AM

      I'm not a genius...

And I'm not too big on romance novels. I love romance shows, though! <3

It should also be strong enough to break through the bottom of a floating city if it got close enough. There is lining to that shields it from radiation, and so it'd be in the rubble. I'd get to all of this.

I might try to lengthen the back story, but I'm not sure how. Maybe I'll try to figure something out.

But no, I don't write fanfictions. It's easier to write with original ideas. I usually write to get out feelings or thoughts, so I always have to portray them in my own developed character. I can't really do it in an already developed character by someone else.
    4. Amy
Not really. The radiation wouldn't immediately cover the city. It would take a little while, which I was planning to discuss.

I did kind of purposely skim over the beginning, because It's not part of the main story, it's just how the person got to where he is going to be for the rest of the story. I don't want to spend so much time writing stuff that's not too important.

Like I've said, this is probably one of my worst pieces. But I still mostly do it for fun.
    5. Amy
I always right in first person. :P
I like to put myself in the character. So it feels like I'm going on the adventure they are.

Meh, I used to live in Washington. I live in South now. Sure, VB is pretty good. But just as a starting point.

When I write it's usually not the same subject. They go completely off sometimes. A lot of times I don't finish what I work on. I started writing something just yesterday, meaning I don't have much and haven't revised any of it yet. But you can go ahead and read it and see if you like any of it.

Like I said, this is one of my worse writings. But I don't really share what I write, because I mostly do it for the fun of it.

I branch out into other languages as well. That's why I know some of a lot rather than mastery of a single one.
It's not only I that recommends Visual Basic as a starting point. The state I live in makes Visual Basic the first language you take. It is a great place to start. And I am taking the Java class next year as a high school computer science class. I'll get a credit for it.

In my spare time I forum, sometimes read, maybe play video games, but that's about it. Pretty boring around here.
    8. Amy
I think I went into HTML. But it wasn't until Visual Basic that I actually started to get a grasp on programming. Then I went on from there.

But just remember, I only know some C++ and absolutely no Java or C, but I plan to take a Java class next year. So if you exceed me in a language, I really don't see how I could help.
    9. Amy
Just because GML is easy and helps you learn. I would never suggest it as like something to dedicate to, but like spending a couple weeks with it could help a complete newbie understand some stuff. Most schools put you through Visual Basic .NET first, which is also a good starting point.

And web programmers are different because web programming is different. The stuff isn't directly compiled into computer software. It's just mark up that other browsers are supposed to interpret. It's a lot different, but at the same time is much the same.

You don't have to start simple. You can try to start complex if you want. But like I said, look up TheNewBoston. He's like the best at explaining things.
    10. Amy
Well, with GML you could jump into advanced game design in like a month. But, it's your choice really.

If you want to learn C++, Java, or any more professional languages, I suggest looking up TheNewBoston. He makes a lot of tutorials for programming. He even makes PHP tutorials.

Just so you understand, the programming languages we use today are object-oriented languages, like C++, Java, VB.NET, they're all object-oriented. This basically means they can easily be used because you don't have to program everything yourself. For example, a simple Windows popup could easily be created by including the "window.h" library in C++ and using the Message function.

In exception for web programmers, people today don't program everything completely from scratch.
    11. Amy
GML is the language the Game Maker takes.

Once you grasp the nature of programming, all languages come a bit easier. And you do work with editors in any language. You will never get anywhere if you program everything completely from scratch. Many video game companies use pre-coded engines and editors to help work with code.

Except for web programming. I have never touched an editor for that.

Programming takes months of works. It's not really something you can just "dive" into unless you're willing to dedicate every second to it.
    12. Amy
I don't fully know those languages. I know a lot of C#.NET, all of PHP, an okay amount of GML and Assembly, but only basic C++. I also know practically all of JScript, but that's incredibly obscure and not a too useful language.

But like I've said, don't start with something difficult. The hardest thing about programming is grasping what it exactly is. Starting with simpler things, like GML or VB.NET, will help you understand. Those are probably the easiest languages in the world, but both very powerful. They will really help you get a grasp on programming.

Also, GML is a C-type. Meaning it uses the same type of syntax all C languages do. So it will help you get into C.
    13. Amy
Never used QBasic. My first programming language was YaBasic, and I know a lot of Visual Basic. But I've never heard of QBasic.

I use different languages depending on what I want to do. If I want to make a more complex application, I use C#.NET. If I want to create a basic console application, I may use C++. If I want to create something for the internet, I use like PHP. If I want to make a video game, I may sometimes even use GML.

I use whatever language I feel works. It's best to start with simple things. Since you haven't been doing much of programming, I suggest starting with VB.NET and GML. Those are the two easiest but both extremely powerful for their intended purpose.
    14. Amy
Lol, I know what she means. Sometimes when working on code, I'd stay up all night trying to finish it.

I don't really care what programming industry I get into. Just as long as I get into one. If I had to program electric toilets I'd be okay with it.
    15. Amy
Just the general stuff. I'm actually not 100% how programming college works. I'm guessing you will learn like everything about how a PC operates, and learn to use things like Assembly and C++. I already have some good Assembly knowledge, and some basic C++. So that might help me smooth into the classes easier.
    16. Amy
Americans aren't the only ones who use electronics. :P

I was hoping to go into computer science as well. They do need translators over there. And I'm sure they have plenty of technology over there to need someone to program it.
    17. Amy
You get used to it. It is kind of interesting getting to live all over the world.
Out of everywhere I lived, France and Washington State are my favorites. I love Seattle. <3

I'm considering moving to one of these places after I get out of college. Thanks to classes here, I'll probably know good French before I graduate high school.
    18. Amy
I'm in a military family so we move a lot. We lived in Portugal for three years, and my dad saved up a lot of Euros. And then when we were told to move to Washington State, we decided to make a detour and visit France with the saved up money. This was the first place I've ever been to where we traveled by subway.
    19. Amy
I am taking spanish only this year. I'm actually going to start taking French. I love France. <3

I've actually been there once and it's so beautiful. I even ate at the Eiffel Tower. The food sucks.
    20. Amy
I don't know how, but I still manage good grades. I rarely get below a 90, when I barely even try. :P

The Seven Stages of Video Game Hardware Grief, as told by hardcastlemccormick:

Stage one: Games will be announced, those will save it.
Stage two: If only they advertised the dang thing!
Stage three: There's got to be a price cut around the corner, just a few bucks off and we'll get that momentum.
Stage four: The system is so good that it will magically get itself back on its feet. It has to. I believe.
Stage five: All you people with your gosh dang NUMBERS and SALES, it makes me sick.
Stage six: SYSTEM-MAKER IS GARBAGE WAAAAHHH.
Stage seven: Did you guys know that replaying this never-expanding game library is really fun?
