I have been trying to find this out for months and since the 3DS is now out in Japan i would have thought my question can be easily answered. I would love it to be on the SD car so i could rent the games i am interested in on launch and then buy the one i like best and not have to start the game all over again.
DS games saved to the cartridge, but I don't know about 3DS games. You get an SD card with the console, so it would make sense to store game data on that.
Yeah i thought that, do you know of anyone who would know about the 3DS save data. Another thing that made me think this is that in Iwata Asks: Samurai Warriors interview they said they have reached the full 2gb limit so i guess that leaves no room for save the?
Looks like it is saved to the sd card. Read this review What you need to know about the 3DS, read here. - Nintendo 3DS Forums
I watched a video from Gamestop (which i posted a link to in another thread) and the guy definitely mentions twice that the game was saved to the SD card. I'm going to order a 16Gb one when i get my 3DS.
Yes and that looks like how it implements street pass without having the game in just have the save on the sd card. I just can't wait to get it
I think nintendo said it would save to the SD card I dont have a problem with that, b/c its not a huge deal Not to mention if you loose a game(which will happen since those things are god awful small) You still have all your data. Ill prob get a 16G card, don't think ill need 32G. I heard they invented a 64G one but its really expensive... and idk if its compatible with these devices just yet.
Does anyone know if the SD card that comes with the 3DS is an SDHC card or just a regular. TBH i don't think that too much of a big card is needed just now since there isn't that much downloadable content and i assume that game saves aren't going to be huge either. I already have an 8 GB so i will stick to that for now, until they release the e-shop and we know the size of the games and 3D Movies they might require a heck of a lot of space. But till then i think that 2 GB should be fine
See here for your 1st question its a 2gb card so should be a normal SD Secure Digital - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, but the 3ds will suppose SDHC see link.
Does this mean the save data isn't written onto the game card itself? (Like the way it works for DS games) If so, how long will it be until the 2 GB SD card runs low on room?
Hardly anyone knows, since the 3DS isn't out in any place besides Japan. For other information, use this site if it's just a quick question that you don't know, but other people might, since not many people have a 3DS on this site.
Save files are much smaller than you probably think. Most of mine on the Wii are in the hundreds of kilobytes. Super Mario Galaxy, for instance, needs 128 KB to save. Some games need more than that - Super Smash Bros. Brawl, for instance, needs 16 MB to save. But they usually tend to be pretty small. I really wouldn't be worried about it.
Only 16 MB? I guess that would make a ton of space available for other things! I can't wait to get my hands on a 3DS to answer all the questions I've had. . . .
They can in theory but there not really official and you’re not granted compatibility assurances by the SD governing body. Why the SD format above SDHC that the Nintendo 3ds supports was invented.
It does save on the cartridge as i have rented street fighter IV and then i bought it yesterday and the all my data like online battles Battle Points and so on are missing so i am quite miffed off!! I was soo looking forward to the save data being either on the system or SD card!
