Financial problems. Really because I went to get MGS today and it wasn't in GAME but it was in Gamestation explain that?
That's quite odd. But they are definitely owned by the same group. Maybe they wanted to cut costs by only stocking certain games in one of the local stores.
Yeah sure. I probably won't buy much as they haven't stocked some newer games but I'll look and tell you guys what happens. I'm going to pre-order from Zavvi. Amazon has been quite slow shipping to me in the past so I'll give Zavvi a try. GAME is the most reliable, which makes it a shame that they're closing.
Well I've been to GAME, and it's slightly saddening. There are very few new games, it's mainly games from December, especially for 3DS. They stocked Revelations and Crush 3D but that was about it for newer games, though they had MK7 etc. For PS3 there were some games like Twisted Metal, but no Mass Effect 3. I didn't buy anything but my bro bought a headset. But games still weren't that cheap, so it wasn't really worth it. They were trying to clear out all the older consoles, here are a selection of more notable prices: All are pre-owned, Xbox 360 elite 250gb £99 DSi £49 PSP 3000 £50 PS2 original £10 I was tempted to get the PS2, but didn't in the end. I did try out the PS Vita, which was awesome. I wasn't really a fan of the analogue sticks, they felt quite slippy. But the graphics are really something, I've got WipEout HD and 2048 was really good. It's a serious challenger to the 3DS. But GAME is really in danger. I went to the 2 GAMEs in Meadowhall, but I didn't go to the GameStation there. I don't think it would have been much different. Also, isn't Comet in trouble too?
I don't think that will happen I dont want it to happen even if GAME do close I want a shop that just sells games! Also chimferno I know hardly any new releases for 3DS but what about Mario and sonic 2012 they stocked that. Also yeah the prices are still a bit steep but some are very low, well I guess it depends where you live.
The thing about GAME is that they sold games about £5 more than others. Most game shops did this, but when you see something £5 less at somewhere else, for instance a supermarket (tesco, asda have good deals) then your probably going to buy the cheaper one. Lots of people do this, so that is one reason why i think they went out of business.
Two reasons which I believe have contributed to GAME'S plight: 1. The rise of downloadable gaming. Many people, especially adults, have turned to downloadable gaming as a means to purchase their games. If you have good internet, there isn't much benefit in going to a store. I don't have great internet, so that's why I go to stores. I believe this was a major factor, and GAME knew it too, by allowing you to purchase individual games in store then download them at home (for PS3). It was kinda pointless, unless you wanted to buy something like CTR for £4. I noticed even today that while PSN gift cards sold, cards for individual games didn't. 2. Steam and the popularity of PC gaming in general, a bit like 1. As the FPS has risen to the top of gaming genres over the last decade, people realised they were much better on PC. And while PC gaming was (seemingly) more for adults, it has now started becoming popular amongst younger teenagers. GAME has traditionally never been a big stockists of PC games, and now Steam has emerged to great success. Steam is a totally unified platform, unlike older distribution services. There are more benefits buying from Steam than in store (My facts may not be totally right, I don't game much on PC, though I have a Steam account).
I agree with that PC gaming has become popular in the past year or so... Most of my mates PC game as I have been getting into it as well so I do think that it has become more popular amongst teenagers.
