I know it's a long-shot, but Because Rare said they would be developing 3DS Games, Do you think they will remake Donkey Kong 64? I REALLY hope they do. If so, what do you think they could change in it?

You beat me to the punch! I was literally just going to make a thread about this. The reason why Nintendo isn't releasing it for the Virtual Console is probably because of the Jetpac game (it's under Rare's ownership, and Microsoft owns Rare, so they wouldn't let Nintendo keep it in), which they could easily replace with something like Donkey Kong Jr. The Rare coin/insignia isn't the problem—just look at Donkey Kong Country—and neither is any other references to Rare; in fact, Rare got a ton of emails from crazed fanpeople giving them harangues on DK64 not being on VC, and they said—and I quote them exactly—this:

“I have no idea why DK64 hasn't shown up yet, and whether Jetpac would still be in there or they'd replace it with Mario's Cement Factory (which ate about three years of my life as a child) or something,” the representative said. “Or maybe a single-screen 2D shooty version of Jet Race would be more appropriate. Who knows? Not us, obviously, or we wouldn't be sitting here pitching clueless alternatives.”

It's not copyright infringements, that's for sure! Maybe Nintendo of America is just too lazy. . . .

Yes, they are restricted from making games for the Wii because the Xbox 360 is it's competitor. However, Microsoft does not have a handheld game system, so they do not restrict Rare on the DS/3DS.

I have been thinking about a remake the last few days. It would be nice to see. With DK64 still not on VC maybe there is a chance.

It isn't up to Rare whether or not Nintendo releases DK64 on the Virtual Console, it's up to Nintendo! Rare doesn't own the game, they just helped make it, but it was released under Nintendo's name. To release it, though, they would have to take out Jetpac, since Rare owns it and released it way before DK64 was out. They could sue if it was in there. This is just to clear up the confusion, since a lot of people think DK64 isn't on VC due to Rare and Microsoft!

    Exactly! It's Nintendo's fault it's not released, not Rare's.

    I would love a remake

First of all the Jetpack issue could be simply resolved as stated before by using a different mini-game. However, I think the main reason they did not release this game for the VC is for the same reason that they did not allow you to save ghost data on Mario Kart 64. You simply cannot save because of the absence of the expansion pack. However, I do believe that this along with the Mario Kart ghost data and everything else could be resolved.

As far as a remake for the 3ds goes, I would be excited to see a remake of this game for the 3ds. I loved playing this game years ago for the n64 and would love to replay it again on my 3ds with maybe some new features.

Even if DK64 is released on VC it may well be remade on 3DS, look at Ocarina and Star Fox 64.

I would say can we not revive an 11 month year old thread but DK64 is just too epic to lock lol

But yeah, I really hope Rare does make a remake (or sequel) or at least allow Nintendo to make one ^_^

    Lookie who revived it... :p

But hey, that'd be neat to have. I didn't play much DK, but a remake/remaster would be cool. Or at least a sequel. The DK series isn't dead, seeing as how they already made DK Country Returns for they wii recently. :D

Donkey Kong 64 Remake For The 3DS?

This was my favorite game on the n64 and I do happen to have a 3DS. I wanted to hear what you guys think and don't bother saying things like "Rare owns it" No, Nintendo does and the only thing stopping Nintendo from putting it on the Virtual Console on the Wii is the Jetpac arcade game which Rare owns. Anyone have leaks its coming or could anyone email Nintendo and ask them? give your thoughts and answers. ;)

Seeing as how that's off topic, I'd suggest introducing yourself in the intro section first. ;)

Just merged them. Try to be careful next time. It's usually 2 infraction points for doing that.
