    Hey there,

Recently we've been getting a lot of spammers posting links to weird websites in the wrong sections (though I'm not sure if some of those sites even have a proper section lol)

Anyway, I thought maybe a good way to try and slow them down is to have a requirement where new users will have to make a certain amount of posts before they are allowed to post links.

What are your thoughts on this?

Then they will spam 'non link' links, such as: ww w. thisisasite .o rg

But the people who were stupid enough to click the links, or the people who were a bit curious won't be able to click it, they would have to copy and paste.

Alos, these spammers can get quite lazy, so...

I agree. if a spammer posts links, they could have viruses in them.

Don't we have a forum suggestion thread? I believe someone mentioned this there multiple times.

I have once or twice. But it was before the bot began spamming a lot. Like on it's first thread or so. And the topic made sense.

I've asked Adam about a spam blocker which blocks anyone on the www.stopforumspam.com database. A LOT of our spammers are on there.

I'm here now! Thanks for the suggestion Klobb but that website gets updated with hundreds of of IP every day. There's no way we could keep up. I'll look into other ways of slowing spam down.

OK, it looks like there's a big automated spam attack on Xenforo websites at the moment. You can read about it here http://xenforo.com/community/threads/my-forums-getting-lots-of-spam.35195/

I've put in a measure to stop the spam but I'm not sure if it'll work. Let me know if more keeps coming in.

I don't click on the links, if I see it and it's complete nonsense I know to report it and just leave the thread.

No, because they are Spam Bot, meaning everything is automated, so when they try to post, it would come up saying that links are not allowed yet so they can not post with the link
