I called Nintendo service center twice today, spoke to two different men about my screen being scratched and they both said they have not heard about this happening and any screen damage sent for repair incurs up to £50 charge! I told them it is a design flaw but they wouldnt agree. Apparently they have seen hundreds of units and have never had this problem reported and it is likely MY FAULT!? How is it my fault that the product I baught scratches itself? I treat my 3DS like a baby, I look after it soooooo well. At first I could clean it but now it looks permanent and I cant clean it off. It is clealy where the bottom screen touches the top screen and has made a defined uncleanable, perfecly straight line down the right side of my 3DS 3D screen. I already paid £200, how is it fair that I pay more for a problem with the design? What are my rights? PLEASE HELP ME 3DSBUZZ!
How would it scratch a long scratch, if all your doing is closing it? Does the base wobble? I've not experienced this.
Can`t you take a photo of the scratch and send it to Nintendo with a written letter. Edit: Found this http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=154491
@Pazzie That is the exact same problem I am having. Started as a smudge everytime I opened it, I cleaned it first every time but the scratch just appeared. @Link Dont know if you even have a 3DS but the bottom screen edge presses agains the top screen when closed. No wobble or effort required, it just scratches itself. I have called again in hope of speaking to somebody half decent and I did. The guy was very helpful but said they have to say they dont know about it as its an overlooked Nintendo design fault and its only a small problem! he said he would help me though but the service team would 'look' at my 3DS and they would have to decide what to do when they get it. He said I may just get the whole thing back as I sent it. I'm really annoyed at this. Frustrated and peeved to say the least. This is the first time the service team have not been able to promise a fix for anything for me (had dsi with bad shoulder buttons but they replaced it) and it is a worrying sign of things to come. I am so angry and I have found my reciept from Asda, £197... I think I'm going to go and get my money back. Besides I'm already bored of SSFIV, nearly completed Ridge Racer, got Nintendogs to feed my new game needs but it falls short. DAMN YOU NINTENDO! yep...f**k it, taking it back tonight. I may get a new one when more games are out and they fix this problem. It will only keep happening with this design. ...and I was so close to seeing the update...
I did say, "I've not experienced this" which should indicate that I do indeed have a 3DS. Anyway, Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
i had the exact same problem and when i went to return mine they said it was my fault! Luckily i also had a dead pixel so they said the could still exchange it, i feel bad for you though, my scratch was very annoying.
Sorry to hear you had no luck 3Dbrains. I`m now using a piece of soft tissue (cut to size) to pretect the top screen from getting scratched when 3DS is closed. Hopefully will soon find a small, thin cleaning cloth to use instead.
I just keep getting smudge lines on both sides where the small bottom screen meets the top wider screen (ie, it has a smudge line on both sides of the top screen the same size as the bottom screen)... it's hard to explain, but basically when closing it the sides of the bottom screen are hitting the top screen which is wider. Not a big problem for me at the moment, but it's one to look out for as the top is the more expensive screen due to it being 3D. I think i'd better get screen protectors and fast.
Noticed the smudge lines a few times now, just wiped them off. It now seems though, that my unit has s series of small scratches down both sides of the 3D screen. Not happy. The boffins MUST have known about this during product testing.
ok I think I know what needs to be done I will go into game and use my points to buy a special pack for the 3ds with extra stylus etc It also has a screen protector so hopefully that'll work. Also it's unfortunate to hear that it isn't being repaired on warranty Nintendo are being pains lately
great idea bowser.I recommend this idea for all the people that have the problem.I have this problem too.I will buy a screen protector but for now lets make use of the piece that came with the 3DS to protect the screen.
Why would Nintendo even want to have the border of the touch screen bump up like that? It's happened to me, too, and I think it's bad luck that it happened to be the top screen's screen protector that I accidentally ruined. . . . I'm going to buy another pack just to get the top screen protector, now. IT'S A CONSPIRACY!
Beware Dino, mine used to wipe clean, now they're some tiny scratches. Just don't want your unit to get any worse.
