Dragon Quest Monsters 3D To Have eShop App For Backwards Compatibility
Owners of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 on Nintendo DS will be able to bring their menagerie into the shiny new 3DS version, after beating the main storyline.
We’re getting increasingly excited for Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D. Square-Enix seem to be pulling out all the stops to ensure that this isn’t just a rehash of the GameBoy Color classic, but effectively a reboot of that game in its own right that propels the series forwards.
With a lofty monster count, StreetPass features galore and new moves and monsters to hunt down, things are looking good! But it seems there’s another trick up Square-Enix’s wizardly sleeves.
Andriasang have just reported the news revealed in Japan via Jump. Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D is to receive a special, completely free eShop app for the Nintendo 3DS to coincide with the game’s Japanese launch on May 31st.
If you own a copy of the Nintendo DS game Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, you’ll be able to extract your collection of beasts from the game to the 3DS app. The same applies for Joker 2 Professional, which never saw the light of day beyond its native Japan.
Once moved to the app, these same monsters you’ve lovingly trained, battled and synthesised in Joker 2 will be able to be added to your 3DS game, Terry’s Wonderland 3D. Completely intact, and just as awesome as you left them.
But as with so many things in life, there’s a catch. The simplest one is that in order to import your Joker 2 data, you need to have beaten the storyline of the 3DS game, Terry’s Wonderland 3D. The second catch is that only monsters of A Rank and below will be eligible for transfer.
For those who’ve not played a Dragon Quest Monsters game before, every monster is ranked from F (lowest) to S (super-powerful and rare), or occasionally X (even rarer, usually only given away in promotions). Most of your brutes will be able to hop across the great divide between games, but those S Rank and X Rank creatures will need to stay in Joker 2.
It’s not currently stated if this app will make its way West, should Terry’s Wonderland arrive on our shores. We can only hope! If your humble writer has to abandon his beloved Schleiman Tank, he’s going to be very upset.
Additionally, it’s been revealed that clearing the story for Terry’s Wonderland 3D gives you the powers of ‘Ultimate Synethesis’, letting you blend beasts in new and awesome ways. Nice!
