Dragon Quest VII Online Functionality Revealed
The Monster Park is confirmed as returning, allowing a trio of monsters to search for treasure.
The lines between single-player and multiplayer videogames has been blurring for some time, especially in today’s hyper-connected world of technology. The 3DS has a wealth of ways of interacting, from connecting to local systems to online play for various games.
Square-Enix’s upcoming revamp of Dragon Quest VII is seemingly set to take full advantage of this connectivity, according to a Game Watch Impress report translated by Siliconera. Not only will StreetPass be used to its full potential, but it’s now suggested that online play could in some way contribute to the ingame ‘Immigrant Town’.
The fragments of ancient maps exchanged via StreetPass are now being known as StreetPass Stones. Through the course of the game, the player will be able to fit out Immigrant Town with amenities such as a casino, a lottery stand and a tavern. This very tavern will allow, it seems, StreetPass Stones to be traded online with other players.
As if that’s not enough to distract you from the already-heaving main storyline, extra story sequences will apparently be unlocked by the player’s acquisition of StreetPass Stones that are hauled back to Immigrant Town.
What’s more, the mechanic of monsters allying to your cause after being given a jolly good thrashing has made the cut from PS1 original to 3DS revamp.
Monsters dwell within the Monster Park, and can be interacted with by the player. You can send them off in trios to gather StreetPass Stones in a big dark cave.
Dragon Quest VII is shaping up remarkably well for the 3DS. It’s due in Japan on February 7th, and we’re yet to hear word of the international release date.
We remain hopeful such is forthcoming, however. The planet could unite in the pursuit of StreetPass Stone trading!
