Expect A Roster Of At Least 20+ Racers In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed
With various systems to receive various exclusive characters, apparently. Teasing!
Vroom! Splash! Whoosh! Those are the sorts of onomatopoeic noises you can expect to hear while careening through land, sea and air in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. With the entirety of SEGA’s deep back-catalogue of characters to rummage in (as well as one or two unexpected guest racers), the roster of drivers was always expected to be bulky.
How bulky are we talking? Bowser-after-a-night-in-with-a-bucket-of-chicken-wings-and-luxury-ice-cream bulky? We just don’t know. But we can certainly take a more educated guess, as Sonic Stadium have snagged some official forum confirmation from the developers themselves.
The full roster, across all formats, clocks in at 29 characters. Presumably they just couldn’t quite think of 30, bless ‘em. But the caveat (or bonus, depending on your perspective), is that 29 playable characters won’t be in every version of the game. The selections available will vary by console; 29 is the total number across all formats.
Steve Lycett of game developers Sumo Digital had this to say:
“Over all the different platforms, this totals up to 29 actual playable choices. But that doesn’t mean that there are 29 playable choices in all platforms (in fact no single platform has all 29). Some drop down to the low 20′s, some instead have high 20′s.“
Does anyone else have a sinking feeling that handheld versions will have the ‘low twenties’ option? We hope not!
Either way, there’s plenty more cryptic half-information to be had from Mr. Lycett. As well as confirming ‘more than 90 different forms’ as transformations for all the vehicles, he also hinted that it’s not quite as open-and-shut as it might first appear.
…”And who said each vehicle was limited to a single driver… Or indeed vehicle type per surface.”
Intriguing! There are apparently console-specific character choices for each version of the game, which begs the question… who, exactly, can we expect to see exclusively on 3DS?
