Experience the 3D effect of 3DS Now… Sort Of

Last month the 3DS’s producer said it would be very difficult to convey the effect of the 3DS without seeing one in action. He’s not wrong, but we tried to do it anyway.

3D 3DS

While it isn’t “true” 3D, the image above helps to convey a sense of distance. Try focusing on the distance between the objects instead of the objects themselves.

The 3D effect of 3DS works by showing an image from a slightly different angle to each eye. Unfortunately without a 3DS style screen, it’s impossible to show the effect without glasses. The next best thing we can do is show both images to both eyes, rapidly switching between the two. This can trick the brain into thinking your eyes are seeing separate images. This effect is known as wiggle stereoscopy.

It is far less immersive than would you get from a real 3D image but it works better for some people than others. Does the effect work for you?

Why not try using pictures that require the "cross-eye" method?

  2. Adam Leavi says:

I looked at the image and blurred my eyes. I got a good sense of depth to my suprise. Only problem is the blur. Good effort!

Some people can sometimes have a hard time getting the crossed eyes method to work. I have tried everytime I see a cross eyed picture and it never works but blinking with this picture works

    Dude..

That makes your eye bleed xP

  11. Mark says:

Cross Eye is so much better than this. And it doesn't make your eyes "bleed"

  12. adam says:

is that life size picture of 3ds

  13. Roy says:

Make it so the two slightly differant images are posted next to each other. Then I can get close to the screen or even bettter use my bros iPod and mine and put one Image in front of each eye.

  14. Adam Leavi says:

    @adam

It isn't life size. Well it can be but it all depends on the size of the screen/resolution your using to look at this website.
