Fire Emblem: Awakening Teaser Trailer Is Twenty Seconds Of Epic
Battles! Stoic character portraits! That guy in a mask!
It’s 2013! Check us out, having survived the end of the world and such. What’s more, the post December-21st-2012 world isn’t some Fallout-like wasteland of scavengers and atrocities, which always helps.
Nevertheless, a new year means many new things, chief among which are the lovely new 3DS games we’ll be sinking our teeth into this year. Not our actual teeth, of course, because eating electronics in an inadvisable practice. But our metaphorical videogame teeth, oh! They shall dine finely on the many treats to come! One such treat is Fire Emblem: Awakening, which has kept armchair generals throughout Japan entertained for months now. As the rest of the world eagerly readies the troops, Nintendo has released a teaser trailer for the game, which is but a tantalising month away!
Hurrah! …Well, okay, that was just a few seconds of cutscene footage, but nonetheless it’s intriguing stuff. We’re still excited that the magnificent anime cutscenes from the Radiance games on GameCube and Wii have been so lovingly translated to glorious 3DS-o-vision.
Creating an extra sense of immersion, of course, is the ability for players to create a custom character to enter the battlefield, complete with a user-defined appearance from various presets. As explained on the official website listed at the end of this teaser video, Awakening takes the relationships between the various characters more seriously than ever before. Not only can duos team up to bring the pain to the enemy, but the kinships forged in the flames of battle can even result in marriages. That’s got to make for one heck of an anecdote at cocktail parties when the war’s over, no?
“So how did you and your husband meet?”
“Oh, y’know, the usual… I was burying my battleaxe into the swathes of undead swarming at me from all sides, then he thunders in with his spellbook blazing and incinerates an encroaching swordsman into a nondescript smouldering pile of ash. Then we went bowling.”
Fire Emblem: Awakening arrives in February. Are you ready to lead your valiant soldiers into battle, great 3DS general?
