Overview
Bit.Trip Saga was announced for the 3DS by the publisher, Aksys Games, on the 28 April 2011. It is understood to be a compilation of the six 'Bit.Trip' titles that have previously been released on the WiiWare download service. The games are to be remade in order to incorporate auto-stereoscopic 3D elements.
Gameplay
The six individual games feature a different type of arcade style gameplay. However, three stylistic features are present in every title; the 8-bit style music, the blocky graphics, and the presence of the main protagonist, Commander Video. All the titles require the player to play in time with the music.
The games included on the cartridge, along with their European WiiWare release dates, are as follows:
| Game | Released | Brief Overview | Meta- Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bit.Trip Beat | 1/5/09 | In Bit.Trip Beat, the player has to move a paddle on the left hand side of the screen up and down to deflect 'beats' that are coming from the right. Each beat contributes a note to the background tune, hence the need for the player to move the paddle to the beat. | 80% |
| Bit.Trip Core | 21/8/09 | Bit.Trip core sticks to the beat-destroying nature of Beat. This time, the beats come towards Commander Video's ship in the centre of the screen, and have to be destroyed by firing up, down, left or right. | 80% |
| Bit.Trip Void | 5/3/10 | Bit.Trip Void sees the player take control of a black 'void' on the screen, which they are able to move around in the 2D plane. The aim is for the void to come into contact with black dots, and avoid white dots, both of which swarm around the screen. | 79% |
| Bit.Trip Runner | 14/5/10 | The first Bit.Trip title to allow the player to take control of Commander Video, Bit.Trip Runner is a continuously side-scrolling 2D platformer. The player has protect Commander Video, as he runs continuously from left to right, from various obstacles. | 76% |
| Bit.Trip Fate | 19/11/10 | Bit.Trip Fate requires the player to move Commander Video around, and shoot enemies who advance on the Commander from all directions. The player's movement is constrained to a single shape, often a wave. | 75% |
| Bit.Trip Flux | 25/2/11 | The final game in the series, Bit.Trip Flux, plays almost identically to the original, Bit.Trip Beat. The only difference in gameplay is that the whole thing is mirrored; the player controls the paddle on the right as beats come in from the left of the screen. | 81% |
There is not much of a plot in the Bit trip saga however there are over 25 cutscenes about the journey with Commander Video from the beginning of life to the end which help you to understand a bit more about the commanders videos adventure.
