Overview

Dream Trigger is a unique arcade shooter coming to the Nintendo 3DS. The game was developed and published by the company D3 Publisher. It was created to showcase the 3DS's graphical capabilities and color spectrum using brilliant color blasting through the screen. The player controls a cursor filled with color, used to eliminate enemies and brighten up the landscape.

The player's role in the game is being "the fixer of dreams". The fixer of dreams must put an end to the dark attacks in the world before the player is himself attacked and destroyed by them. This is done by transforming environments from being bleak and forlorn to bright and colorful using the player's special color and shooting abilities.

Gameplay

When brought into a level and stage, the player must first use sonar bombs to force seemingly invisible enemies to reveal themselves. Not doing so will allow these invisible enemies to seep all color out of the player, without having the player being able to fight back. Once this is done, the player must then traverse through the environments of the stage while simultaneously evading enemy attacks on the player. Eliminating enemies using the aim with the color cursor will result in "explosions of color" that will also be supplemented with 3D to make the color seem to come off screen. As the player travels through the game environments, the ultimate objective is to turn these environments from being "dark and frightening" to "a gorgeous dreamscape" by blasting color with the player's shooter wherever possible.

The main game mode of single player features 50 different levels or stages, with some having boss battles at the end of stages. Each stage also features difficulty levels to choose from. These 50 different stages are set on 10 different visual environments. The soundtrack is said to feature electronic remixes of well known classical songs, also. Two player multiplayer is also supported, although it is unknown how multiplayer will be integrated in Dream Trigger. One-hundred trophies serve as rewards for completing certain objectives in the 50 stages of the main game mode; the trophies will play out similarly to the Xbox 360's achievement system.

Release

Dream Trigger was released on May 10, 2011 for North Americans at a price $39.95. Europeans received the game at a later date of July 15, 2011, for GBP £39.99. Plans for a release in Japan have yet to be announced at all, for the moment.
