Overview
Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns is a game for both the Nintendo DS and 3DS in North America, In Japan it was only released for the DS. The Nintendo 3DS version is region locked so if you have a North American copy, it will not work on a Japanese 3DS. It is a farming simulator, where you must set up a successful farm.
The main difference from previous installments in the series is that the story will concern two rival towns, Konohana who specialize in crops and Bluebell who specialize in animals, which the player has to encourage to get along by setting up a farm in their choice of one of them. They added a couple new animals, the alpaca and honey bee, as well as a pet owl that will help you traverse between towns.
Plot
The Tale of Two Towns is set in two towns which have a long-standing rivalry over food. Both towns believe that their produce is the best. Bluebell is a European style town who love all kinds of meat, whereas Konohana is an Eastern style town who prefer to cook with vegetarian crops. The plot will involve the player choosing to set up a farm in one of these two towns, and, later on in the game, try to bring the two towns together to end the feud.
Gameplay
Like previous iterations in the Harvest Moon game series, Harvest Moon: The Tale Of Two Towns will focus mainly on the farming elements of the game. When the player enters the area, the player can choose between the two towns based on their preferences. Once the player has chosen a town to reside in, the player then starts up a small farm which can grow with time and work put in by the player. While managing a farm, the player will need to pick weeds and flowers, and plant crops; later on, when the player manages to expand the farm, the player will also need to maintain crops, milk cows, and collect eggs from hens. While doing all of this, the player can also participate in mini-games such as fishing and cooking. There are cooking contests four times a month. The 3DS version also has an animal petting game, where the animal you're petting will appear on the top screen in 3D. The player can also talk with the local people of Konohana and Bluebell, as well as other local farmers.
Development
Harvest Moon: The Tale Of Two Towns has already been released on the DS in 2010, so Harvest Moon: The Tale Of Two Towns now has to mainly go through localization features as well as the possibility of new features being added to the 3DS besides the 3D.
3DS Differences
The 3DS remake of Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns has just a few differences that I will list here. The main difference being that it is now in 3D and has better graphics! It is region locked so you cannot play it on a Nintendo 3DS made outside of North America. It features an animal petting mini-game that displays the animal you’re petting in 3D on the top screen of the 3DS. It also has a Street Pass feature, allowing the player to put items in your Street Pass Box that can then be traded with other players that pass by.
