Overview

James Noir's Hollywood Crimes (previously announced as Hollywood 61 as the name of the game in the USA) is an upcoming puzzle-mystery game set in the 1960s for the Nintendo 3DS by Ubisoft. It is among the 8 Ubisoft games scheduled to launch on the 3DS. The story is written by James Noir, hence the title. The main character in the game is the player. The game is developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft.

It is said to include over 150 puzzles, and appears similar to the Professor Layton games in gameplay since it involves solving these puzzles as the game progresses to solve a much bigger mystery. However, it also has key differences from the Professor Layton games; the art style is more mature, and the game does not contain exploration scenes.

Gameplay

James Noir's Hollywood Crimes it primarily a story driven puzzle game set during the 1960s. The game is very story based with no exploration scenes; just bits of story in between puzzles. The puzzles are said to be highly interactive, with touch screen and circle pad controls being the primary method of control. According to the developer, Philippe Debay, the 3D effect is not used directly for puzzle solving but is used to immerse the player in the story. This allows completion of the game without use of stereoscopic 3D.

Release

On the 12th April Nintendo of America confirmed in their spring/summer 2011 games line up that James Noir's Hollywood Crimes is to be released in the USA on the 1st November 2011 and in Europe on the 25th November 2011.

  2. Fungelstein says:

I know this’ll go onto my list of “need-to-buy”. I’ve been looking for another DS game that was similar to “Again” for the DS that featured live actors as characters mixed with mystery and puzzles. Gotta love ‘em puzzles.

  3. Steven says:

I don’t think that the date is right on the release date….

  4. Sam Walker says:

This game is absolute rubbish – 5 hour storyline (if that…). Enough said. ;)
