Overview

Star Fox 64 3D is an action game where you are flying in a ship shooting your enemys. Star Fox 64 3D is a remake of the classic Nintendo 64 game, Star Fox 64, or Lylat Wars in Europe. It isn't a straight port of the original, as Nintendo have added a few new features. The voice acting has also been updated to make better use of the 3DS's sound system. Four-player death-match also returns, although Wi-Fi compatibility has been denied. The bottom touch screen is a map of the controls and where the dialogue appears, and the top 3D screen is where you control your character.

Differences From The Original

There are many noticeable differences in this game, such as improved graphics, a smoother control scheme, and the dual screens. There are some subtle—yet vital—changes that make the game easier for people who are new to the game, such as auto-saving. Probably the most obvious change is the 3D effect, which will help the player judge how far enemies are from the Arwing, as well as being cosmetically pleasing. The player will also be able to replace the use of the 3DS's Circle Pad with the use of the 3DS's gyroscope and accelerometer. Instead of moving the Circle Pad around to control the direction of the Arwing, the player can move the 3DS around, mimicking movements of the Arwing to make them appear on-screen.

Release

The game was supposed to be released before E3 2011, but the game was delayed. The game is scheduled to be released in North America on 9 September, 2011. The European release date has not yet been confirmed.

It has now been confirmed the release date for Star Fox 64 3d in Europe was on the 9th September 2011 along side the North American launch however it arrived in Australia on the 15th September 2011. The game was released in Japan on the 17th July 2011.

Story

Spoiler Alert

The following section contains major plot points, continue at the risk of spoiling the story.

The evil Dr. Andross was once a brilliant scientist working for the Cornerian Army. However, he took his research too far, and the devastating effects on the planet forced General Pepper to banish him to the barren planet Venom, where it was thought he would never survive. Five years later, General Pepper picked up strange activity coming from the Venomian surface. He then hired the original Star Fox Team, led by James McCloud and consisting of Peppy Hare and Pigma Dengar to investigate. Upon arrival, Pigma betrayed the team to Andross and Peppy and James were captured. Peppy barely escaped and returned to Corneria to tell Fox McCloud, James' son, about his father's assumed death. After a few years passed, Andross declared war on the Lylat system and his army made its way to Corneria. General Pepper then turned to the Star Fox team, consisting of Fox McCloud, Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad, and Peppy Hare to stop Andross and end the Lylat Wars.

The story can go various ways, depending on your actions in the game. Such as whether you save certain characters from being shot down or if you defeat certain enemies.

True Ending

Most paths lead to Macbeth as the fifth stage. Star Fox attacks Andross's supply base on the planet Macbeth. Fox goes after the Forever Train while driving a landmaster, and tries to destroy it before it can reach Andross's supply depot. After the train engineer deploys a flying robot boss, Mechbeth, from the front of the train, Fox is able to hit all eight switches and a master lever. This causes the train track to change course and the train to crash into a fuel bunker, destroying itself and Mechbeth.

This causes major damage to Andross's army and leaves him open for a direct attack on Venom through Area 6. Despite the Area 6 Commander and his apprentice Caiman's attempts to stop them, Fox and his team penetrate all three lines of defense. As a last resort the two deploy a teleporting boss called Gorgon, but Fox destroys Gorgon and makes his way to Venom.

At Venom, Star Fox is attacked by Star Wolf. Wolf attacks Fox, Leon attacks Falco, Pigma attacks Peppy, and Andrew attacks Slippy, but Star Fox shoots them all down. Fox goes to Venom's core to face Andross alone. He reaches Andross and fights him as usual, but when he is defeated this time he reveals his true brain form. After destroying both of his eyes and brain, Dr Andross tries one final attempt to kill Fox by self-detonating, but Fox is seemingly rescued by his father James. Two Arwings are shown narrowly escaping the explosion, but Fox is then shown looking around his ship and when his sanity is questioned by his teammates, he says he is alright. Whether or not the voice and ship that lead him to safety was really Fox's surviving father is not known.

With Andross destroyed, the Lylat Wars are over and Star Fox returns to Corneria for their reward. General Pepper offers Fox the chance to join the Cornerian army, but he refuses, saying that they prefer to do things their way. The mercenary team then flies off into the sunset.

Andross – A Cornerian scientist that is the main protagonist who was exiled to Venom after nearly destroying his home planet.

Lylat System

Corneria- It is the first mission in the game that splits into several routes. It is the most populated planet in the Lylat System. General Pepper commands the Cornerian Army from here; This is also Andross’ home planet. If you take the easy route to Meteo you’ll fight Granga. To go the alternate route to Sector Y you must save falco, fly through the seven arches over the water, and then follow Falco through the waterfall to fight Attack Carrier.

Meteo- an asteroid field that is located between Corneria and Fichina. To take the alternate route to Katina, fly through the seven warp rings.

Fichina- An Icy planet in the Lylat System that has a corneria base on it, you’ll fight the Star Fox Team here. To take the alternate route to Solar, defeat Star Wolf and disarm the bomb.

Katina- Is the front line of defense for Corneria and has more militia than any other planet. There are two routes you can take, if you destroy the mother ship and save the base then you’ll advance to Solar. If you did not get to destroy the mother ship then you’ll advance to Sector X.

Sector Y- A nebula that is shaped like the letter Y, the Star Fox team comes here to save a Cornerian fleet. Defeat 100 enemies to take the route to Aquas, if you don’t defeat 100 enemies then you’ll be taken to Katina.

Aquas- A planet that is covered in all water, you’ll meet an array of different enemies here. It is the only level that lets you use The Blue Marine and there is only one route that takes you to Zoness.

Solar- The twin star to Lylat, only has one route that takes you to Macbeth. You receive assistance from Bill Grey in this mission and you’ll go up against the boss, Vulcain.

Sector X- A nebula in the shape of an X, Andross had a secret research base here. Also is the only mission that has 3 different routes. If you don’t let Spyborg hit Slippy then you’ll advance to Macbeth, but if Slippy gets hit you’ll go to Titania. To take the last route to Sector Z you must go through all of the warp rings, I believe there are four.

Titania- A desert planet, you come here in the search for Slippy after Spyborg smacked him into it. You have to destroy Goras on this planet. Is one of the only two levels that you get access to The Landmaster.

Macbeth- A planet that is devoted to Mining, you will chase a train during the most of this mission. Is one of the only two levels that you get access to The Landmaster. You can get assistance from Katt during this mission. To take the alternate route to Area 6 you must shoot all 8 switches and then the main switch.

Zoness- Is an aquatic world similar to Aquas, however you don’t get to use The Blue Marine during this mission. You attempt to sneak in quietly, and if you destroy all of the spotlights then you’ll advance to Sector Z. Destroying all of the spotlights can be quite difficult!

Sector Z- A nebula in the shape of a Z, Andross has a surprise for you here. Katt Monroe assists you in driving off the surprise attack. If you destroy all 6 missiles then you’ll advance to Area 6.

Area 6- An area of space that is directly above Venom, you fight Gorgon here before advancing to Venom.

Bolse-A satellite that orbits above Venom, you’ll fight the Star Wolf team here for the last time.

Venom- The largest planet and the home of Andross after General Pepper exiled him there. The planet is so big that this level actually counts as two levels, these are your last two missions. The only planet that you can be rewarded with two medals.

Vehicles

The Arwing- The main vehicle used by Star Fox, you can perform six easy maneuvers in this ship to evade obstacles and enemy fire; boost, brake, U-turn, somersault, tilt, and barrel roll. Along with those you also have three main attacks: Arwing Lasers, Charged Laser Shots that lock-on to enemies, and Smart Bombs. The Arwing’s Lasers’ can be upgraded in each level by grabbing the Laser Upgrades.

The Landmaster- a tank vehicle, has four easy maneuvers to evade obstacles: boost, brake, barrel roll, and hover. You can attack incoming enemies with its laser, charged laser that locks on to enemies, or smart bombs. It can also hover a short distance to collect items or get a better shot. The Landmaster however is only used in two levels of the game, Macbeth and Titania.

The Blue Marine- a submarine that has two lasers and unlimited torpedoes that glow allowing you to see in the dark. The torpedoes also can lock-on to enemies when used like a charged laser shot. It has three easy maneuvers to evade obstacles and enemy fire: boost, brake, and barrel roll.

Laser Upgrade-Upgrades your single laser to twin laser and then to hyper laser.

Smart Bomb- Collect these to blow up your enemies.

Supply Ring (Silver) - Recovers your shield gauge a little bit.

Middle Supply Ring (Silver Star) - Recovers your shield gauge more than the supply ring and are rarer.

Shield Ring (Gold)- collect three of them to double the ship’s shield. Collect three after that in the same level to get an extra life.
