Overview
Mega Man Legends 3 will be the next title in the Mega Man Legends series. The last entry, Mega Man Legends 2, was released in 2000. It continues on the story of Mega Man Legends 2, with the player still facing the evil Bonne family and reaverbots infesting the land while also trying to find the Mother Lode. Unfortunately, not much is known beyond this because the game is still in its early development stages. Development had been temporarily suspended due to a number of reasons, but development has resumed. The game was officially cancelled, but a lot of fans are still wanting this game, starting a petition which reached it's goal of 10,000 but Capcom's response was that that alone was not enough to bring it back into production.
Development
The Mega Man Legends 3 development process is unique in that it is very fan-oriented. Fans were able to vote in the heroine of the story as well as the voice actress, and a design for a reaverbot using Capcom's Unity page. The winning design of the contest has been announced. Right now, people are currently able to vote for one of three designs for the outfit of the Blue Bomber, the main character of Mega Man Legends 3, until April 25th, 2011. Although the differences between the three outfits are minimal, it shows that Capcom is still willing to continue to include fans in the current development of Mega Man Legends 3 on their Unity page.
Originally, due to Keiji Inafune's act of resigning, and other circumstances for Capcom, the game was thought to be canceled (being that Inafune was the head of the team). However, development has resumed recently, as Capcom has posted on their blog about the status of the project (Although it is unknown whether the whole project altogether has been restarted, or if the development team for Mega Man Legends 3 will be continuing on from the work they started, which includes content designed and voted for by fans on Capcom's Unity page).
Demo
A paid demo version of Mega Man Legends 3 was announced. Officially called Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version, the sample will feature a part of the game where the main character being Barrett (a new character to the series). Players will also be able to play as as Roll Casket, Barrett's monkey companion Dada, and Aero, the heroine that was voted in by fans. Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version will also take feedback of the sample and take note of it in the development process, although the type of feedback is unknown. The demo will be released somtime after the eShop (with price TBA)comes out on June 6th in North America.
Capcom recently announced that "the heat and excitement surrounding this downloadable title would determine whether or not the full game could be greenlit. If hype is strong, the full title will be a go. If not, it’s a no-go. I don’t even want to think about that outcome!" This suggests that the full development and deployment of Mega Man Legends 3 depends on the success of sales and interest of consumers of the Prototype version, even though the game is in a full-fledged development stage.
