Pro Evolution Soccer (or PES) is a soccer game for the Nintendo 3DS by Konami, and was the first soccer game to be released for the 3DS. The game features a player view, which shows the action from over the shoulder of the player who is being controlled. There are another four camera options, including a Dynamic AI camera. Pro Evolution Soccer will also feature licensed stadiums, including the Nou Camp in Barcelona, The San Siro in Milan and Wembley Stadium in London.

Gameplay

Pro Evolution Soccer has several different gameplay modes including Master League, and the UEFA Champions League. There are five levels of difficulty on Pro Evolution Soccer, from beginner to Top Player. Pro Evolution Soccer will also include commentary from Jon Champion and Jim Beglin. Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3d takes the series back to the PS2 era of PES games. That means that new modes such as total control are missing. IGN and Gamespot both complimented the games fluidity.

Game Modes

Pro Evolution Soccer features several different modes.

Exhibition

This mode allows the player to play a single game with any two national or club sides. The player can also use their Master League team in this mode.

UEFA Champions League

In this mode, the player can play either an exhibition UEFA Champions League match, or complete the full UEFA Champions League tournament. The player can play as any of the European club sides in the game. Champions League Mode begins with a group stage, with eight groups being made up of four clubs, before a knock-out stage with the final 16 clubs. Each tie in the knock-out stage is made up of two legs, before the team with the higher aggregate score proceeds in the competition.

Master League

Master League allows the player to guide a club of their choice to success. The Master League season is 52 weeks long, with three transfer windows to buy and sell players. Winning games earns Master League points which can be used towards signing new players and paying player salaries. If the player has a negative points total or has less than 15 players on their squad it will be game over.

Multiplayer

Pro Evolution Soccer will feature a local, wireless multiplayer mode. However, the game will not have an online mode. The local multiplayer is multi-card play only, meaning both users need a copy of the game.

Edit Mode

In Edit Mode the player can edit players, teams, stadium names and league/cup names. A players, name, position, abilities and special abilities can all be edited. The players in clubs and national teams can be edited. When editing teams, the player kit numbers can be changed, and for unlicensed clubs, the team name can also be changed.

Pro Evolution Soccer will feature 60 national sides and 170 club sides. There will be fully licensed clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. The licensed national sides include Spain, Argentina, Australia and the Netherlands. Fully licensed leagues will include the Dutch Eredivisie and the French Ligue 1. As well as current players and teams, there will also be unlockable clasic players and teams.

StreetPass

Pro Evolution Soccer utilizes Streetpass in a siilar manner as Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition. The team that you create in Master League is pitted against the other 3DS owners team. The winner is given experience points and has his team status level up from "Amateur” → “Division 3” → “Division 2” → “Division 1” → “UEFA Champions League". The streetpass does not affect the rest of the game.


Reception

Pro Evolution Soccer was given a score of 78% by Official Nintendo Magazine, which said the game was "compulsive and challenging" although "old flaws remain". IGN gave the game a 8.0/10 saying "Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D makes a strong debut on the 3DS, and of all the launch titles available it puts forward one of the strongest arguments for Nintendo’s brave new vision of the future". GameSpot gave the game a 7.5/10 saying "Fans of the series will enjoy playing this 3DS debut, but there's certainly a lot that could be improved.". Reviewers also said that the 3D effect was of the best of the launch titles. 3DS Buzz released a review, giving PES 2011 3D a 7.5/10, or "good" score, stating that the game runs smoothly, with great graphics and responsive controls for a good game of football, but the lack of online competitive gameplay, a practice mode, and a method to save screenshots and videos are what prevent the game from being better Metacritic, an online review compiler, has given the game an aggregate score of 72/100, with most reviews being "mixed" or "positive".

Release

Pro Evolution Soccer will be released as a launch title in Japan, on the 26th of February, under the name 'Winning Eleven 3D Soccer'. The game will be released in the UK on March 25, 2011, as a launch title for the 3DS. This will make it the first 3D football game on a handheld console. It is also the first game in the Pro Evolution Soccer series to be released on a Nintendo handheld since 2008 on the Nintendo DS, as Konami stopped producing it for the DS because of its hardware limitations. Also it was released in the US on the 1st February 2012.
