Overview

Resident Evil: Revelations is an exlusive game for the Nintendo 3DS, and the second release in the franchise for the stereoscopic console. Chronologically, the game takes place between Resident Evil 4 and 5, shortly after the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance is established. The events in the story take place in Europe.

A demo, 'Resident Evil: Revelataions Pilot', was released as a bonus included with Resident Evil: The Mercenaries, and a demo has also been released on the eShop to download for free.

The game takes place on a seafaring vessel, but it will also often include flashback missions. These missions are more action packed than the ones occurring in the present day, and early screenshots suggest that they include Terragrigia, a snowy mountain, and possibly even a mansion.

This game features a campaign mode, raid mode, challenges and Online co-op.

Plot

WARNING! SPOILERS start here

In 2004, a terrorist group named Veltro attacked the floating island of teragregia. Morgan Lansdale, head of FBC, makes the desision to destroy terragrigia with a satalite. That was the 'end' of Veltro, as many believe they died on terragrigia. 1 year later, Chris and his partner Jessica are reported missing on a boat in the medaterranian. UIt's up to Jill and Parker to go abourd that ship (Queen Zenobia) and find them. They find someone, but it is revealed to be a dummy. The room gets gassed, and a man walks in...

Jill wakes up somewhere on the boat, without any weapons. A B.O.W (Ooze) jumps out of the wardrobe, but Jill has no weapons. She evades and unlocks the door. She meets up with Parker, who has had a similar experiance. They find their weapons. They decide to call for help on the bridge, but their tugboat blows up. Out from the shadows appears a figure, Raymond Vester, who gets knocked to the ground. He walks away, Parker knowing him from an earlier time...

In the european mountains, the real Chris and Jessica are prowling around, when a plane crashes. They run over to find that the plane has been severly damaged, and the pilot's face unrecognisable. They continue on through the caves until they see an airport. Their transmitters recieve a signal, so they contact O'Brian. He realises that he just sent Jill and Parker into a trap. But that's not the least of his worries, as Jessica spots the flag of Veltro...

(Chapter 1 End)

Story

In Resident Evil Revelations, as you proceed further more into the Story, or Campaign Mode, you will play either as in sections one after another or one section in the present and one in the past. When you play a Chapter, you may play in the past in oder to find information about a certain character or things as which characters are friends and which ones are enemies, or things like that.

Chapter 1: Into the Depths

In this chapter, Jill and Parker, two BSAA agents go into a mission to find two other agents missing in a Cruise Ship called The Queen Zenobia. They are to find Jessica and Chris because their radar signal was last located at the Queen Zenobia. Upon arriving, Jill and Parker realize that the ship has no sign of life, but they feel like somethings there. Your first mission upon arriving is to find Chris. And later on as you procede, Parker notices a flashing light coming out of a kitchens water drain. Then Jill uses the Genesis and appears to have found a gun. Then out of nowhere a zombie appears, upon defeating it you are taken back into the past to know about the story of Terragrigia (A man made city, which was builded on the ocean which was attacked by Bio-Terrorists)

After that, you are taken into the coast of the mediterranean sea and will met up with Clive R. O'Brian, where you will be explained the controls of the Genesis by reading the manual, which you can access anytime during Campaign Mode by looking at the bottom screen menu. The first mission here is to scan as much DNA of the dead corpses as you can or 100%. While doing that some of the bodies aren't dead and will attack you. One of them will contain a sample of the virus, which O'Brian will take to do a full scan. After getting 100% met up with O'Brian, then he will say that Jessica and Chris are lost and is you mission to find them, supposedly they are in the mountains chasing Veltro, but their last coordinates are to be found in the middle of the ocean. (Example of how you may go back into the past during a chapter)

Finally, you go back to the main stage in time, Queen Zenobia, where your second mission is to find a key to a room where supposedly Chris is in. While looking for it, Jill finds a survivor which is killed before Jill manages to get to where she is. The survivor is a woman with blond hair, which actually holds the key to the room they want to open. Then Jill, with no clue of who she is takes the key she found and meets up with Parker. They open the room, and it tuns out to be a false plastic body, or plastic dummy that looked like Chris. After Jill realizes that it was false, they fall into a trap. The room starts to get gas out which makes Parker and Jill faint. Then a man with a anti poison mask walks in, and seems to know Jill calling her Ms. Valentine. Then you are taken to a menu where it grades on how well you did and gives you are grade A, B, C, etc.. Then the Chapter ends. Next time you start a new chapter, on the bottom screen you will see a quote which if you understand, is like a code for players to foreshadow what the chapter will be about.

Changes from series

Resident Evil: Revelations is an original entry in the series, making it the only handheld game to take place within the main series storyline. According to producer Masachika Kawata, Resident Evil: Revelations will return to the classic exploration and puzzle-solving of earlier series installments, but will also have more emphasis put on horror. Ammo is very scarce unlike in Resident Evil 4 and 5.

Resident Evil: Revelations is also the first entry in the Resident Evil Series to have a downloadable demo, likely due to it being a handheld game.

Connectivity

Online Modes

Only 1 online mode has been announced thus far; raid mode. In raid mode, the player is able to join up with another user online to play through most of the missions either with a friend or worldwide. However, these missions are smaller in raid mode than in single player. The game only allows up to two players in this mode, but Capcom have also stated there will be some sort of 4 player multiplayer, so there is some speculation as to whether there will be more online modes.

  • In the online multiplayer you can get up to a maximum level of Level 50.

To level up you must earn a certain amount of BP points, which can be acquired or earned on how well you complete missions in Raid Mode same as Online Mode. The better you do in a mission such as how much damage you do, how many enemies you kill, the time it took you to finish, your accuracy, etc add up to give you a grade. And then that turns into BP Points.

Controls

The game is fully playable with standard 3DS controls, but the Circle Pad Pro is compatible with the title, allowing for extra control with the second circle pad.

To shoot, the player has to stand in one place and aim. The D-Pad can be used to quickly switch weapons. You can also dodge enemy attacks by quickly flicking the circle pad right before enemies attack you. Also you can pree B while you flick the Circle-Pad back to do a quick turn.

Without the circle pad pro you use the R button to aim at your enemy and the Y button to shoot your enemy.

Characters

Jill Valentine: Revelation's Main character. She is looking for Chris, the founder of BSAA.

Parker Luciani: Ex FBC and now fully turned BSAA member, Parker is Jill Valentine's partner onboard the Queen Zenobia.

Chris Redfield: The founder of the BSAA (Bioterrorism Security Assesment Alliance) and the person Jill and Parker are looking for.

Jessica Sherawat: Another Ex-FBC turned BSAA operative. She is working with Chris in the 'European Mountains'.

Kieth Lumley: Nintendo Power say that he is the most irratating character, and is nicknamed "Grinder".

Veltro Worker: Nameless face of 'Veltro', he appears from time to time taunting, threatening and quoting Dante through his Gas Mask.

Raymond Vester: He works for the BSAA's rival, the FBC (Federal Bioterrorism Commission). We don't know much about him yet...

Clive O'Brian: Director of the BSAA, his main role is giving orders to Chris and Jill.

Quint: A BSAA member who seems to be good with computers and is codenamed "Jackass."

Organizations

Organizations - These are groups that are supposedly against the Bio-Terrorism. Or in for Bio-Terrorism!

  • BSAA - The Organization that Jill, Parker, Jessica, O' Brian, and Chris are in trying to stop the Bio-Terrorist!
  • FBC - They are supposedly against Bio-Terrorism.
  • Veltro - These are the Terrorism group you want to defeat!

Enemies

Most of the enemies in the game are very similar to one another. They have similar designs including the same gray color! And movements, and some have basically the same attacks. They're referred to as the Ooze.

The best strategy is to keep a safe distance away and use your handgun, rifle, or machine gun on the main enemies found on the ships. Also to evade move the Circle Pad back or front right before they attack!!

Land Enemies

STANDARD OOZE

The Standard Ooze is unable to attack from afar (far distance), but once it has closed in on you, it will knock you down with its arm, or clamp onto you with its mouth. Move the Circle Pad Right before it attacks!

CLAWED OOZE

The Clawed Ooze can fire ranged projectiles at the player. To avoid getting hit, shoot its arm before it has a chance to fire or move around to dodge it.

FENRIR

The Fenrir is a dangerous enemy due to their speed, so it's best to use a shotgun against them once they're close by or a longer ranged weapon if they're not. They can leap at you and take you to the ground, or they can do a jump and just take a quick bite out of you before retreating temporarily

HUNTER

Hunters are the sole enemy in Revelations that have appeared in past games. They're quick, agile, and deadly. The Weapons|shotgun is the best weapon to use against them since it's powerful and can hit more than one at a time. There is also a type of Hunter that can turn itself invisible. In this case, watch for the outline of the creature as it gets close or ready to attack.

GLOBSTER

Globsters are the enemies that appear on the beach and also in the water in the Queen Dido. They're pretty slow for the most part since they don't have limbs. Instead, they're basically big blobs of flesh (hence their name). The best area to hit is its mouth whenever it lifts up and opens it.

SCARMIGLIONE

There's another enemy, called Scarmiglione, that has an armored part of its arm. It will hold the shield over its upper body. When it does so, aim for its legs to stun it and then shoot its head. It's possible to take out its legs and then it will just crawl toward you. If you go for its upper body, though, that part will explode after taking a certain amount of damage. Then there will be a tentacle-like appendage that stumbles around and can hit you with a jolt of electricity.

Water Enemies

There are two types of water enemies that can be found in or near the water. These are the most common enemies towards the end of the story, because the ship is sinking!

GHIOZZO

The first enemy is a type of Skeleton fish called Ghiozzo. They become a problem when attacking in groups as they can easily corner you, but tend to be slow at moving and fast when attacking. However, as long as you're not cornered, you can take them out with just a few handgun bullets. Or almost if not all, with a Water Bomb!

SEA CREEPER

The other water specific enemy is Sea Creeper. They stay under the water (where they are protected from your gunfire) and only leap out occasionally to attack. It's best to be patient with these. In the underwater sections, you can use shock/pulse grenades to stun them.

Bosses

There are two main bosses in Resident Evil: Revelations and also there is a couple of Mini Boss-type enemies in the Game. Of course each all different and with different scary effects. And they all have the same weakness, your guns!!

Comms Officer

This is the first boss monster, nicknamed Skagdead, is somewhat bigger (bulkier) than the other enemies, and it has a type of saw as a weapon. Obviously in the game, when you see the gas tanks, the idea here is to use as many of the gas canisters as you can to hit the boss, to hit him, shoot the gas tanks right when he is next to them. That way the explosion caused by the shot will lethally burn the Skagdead. In addition, you also have to watch out for the other enemies that have come from nowhere. Basically, you're going to be moving around a lot to get away from him, since if he grabs you, its an automatic death. It's a good idea to use your physical attack (fully charged, since you have time) after stunning it with a gas canister. It wouldn't be so annoying except that it has a one-hit kill attack, so try to keep your distance other than when using your physical attack.

You fight the same type of creature a couple of more times in the game, while you see him again, you can either try to skip him or kill him to get an illegal customization part.

Hint: Before you get Skagdead out, collect all the ammo. After letting him out, hide on the little passage next to the window. And he has to get you all the way there, once he gets close, jump inside the little room. That way he has to go all the way around the building to get in. That way, keep shooting in and out using the little window spot to get in and out. That way its possible that he wont be able to hit you.

Rachel

Rachael is an FBC member who becomes infected with the virus while on the ship. She is the one that Jill sees being killed while looking for the Key to Open the room where she think chriss is in. She's stronger and gives more damage than the regular enemies, so it's best to keep your distance as much as possible. Its better to start attacking as soon as you see her, because she is faster than normal enemies. You will know she is close as soon as you hear the music (tone) change. She will run off and back into the ducts multiple times after taking a certain amount of damage. You will have to fight her several times, so try to not waist your ammo.

Hint: Try to have Rachel has far away as you can. Also a machine Gun or a Magnum will do lots of damage, so try to aim at her with those weapons. Also when she approaches, move the Circle Pad right before her attack hits to evade it!! Her attack is grabbing you and sucking out your blood! Use Y to scape fast!

Draghignazzo

Part A: This monster will first be encountered in an elevator, when trying to go out of the ship to fix the signal anthena. In the elevator, all you see is his eye, so try to shot it as fast as you can. If you don't hit it fast, then he will attack you causing great damage. If you manage to hit him, he will go away for seconds then appear on a different side of the elevator. Keep shoting until he finally leaves.

Part B: In this stage after coming out of the elevator into a room, you will see that the monster is super big. And has a weir hunchback with I eye. Use the gas canisters to your advantage like with the comms officer. This enemy, however, can speed up and barge into you, so watch out for that. He charges by taking a break then suddenly runs into you. It's possible to evade it using the dodge move right when he comes by, but you can also avoid it by running when you notice it's about to come at you. Whenever it lays down its arm thing, that's when it's about to run at you. It can also pound the ground which will land you on your ass briefly. Obviously what you want to do is hit the vulnerable side, not any armored part, which is the majority of the creature. It'll take a little while, but after enough damage (and some dodging by you), it'll be over.

Hint: Since he goes after you, try to stand near the little food stands or boxes found in the room so that when he comes at you he will destroy them. By destroying them, you will find herbs, ammo, and more!! Also attack fast and prevent charging your gun right before he runs at you.

Sea Creature

This monster is fought right before leaving the Queen Zenobia, and you have about four minutes to take it out. So it may be tough!

You will have to fight this Monster in land, and air.

Part A: In Land, before of the rescuing Helicopters help you, this craeture will destroy it. To defeat it focus on the arms/tentacles at first because they will attack you, the arms may trow fire attacks like spiky spines. Or can also like strike with a big smack with its tentacles at you. Whenever the pilot drops a Rocket Launcher, use it to take out the tentacles. Once they're all gone and he drops another one, use it on the face/mouth of the creature.

Part B: After the cutscene, where you hop into the helicopter, the second part of the fight will start. Just like before, you'll be focusing on the tentacles. Watch the meter to make sure you don't overheat the gun and also watch over the enemy attacks because it will trow Spiky things at you. It will take several minutes, but once you've taken out the tentacles that come from its body, it'll open its mouth to reveal more. You'll then receive a rocket launcher. Target its mouth, lock on, and fire. After that this creature is gone!

Hint: Try to evade the attacks of the enemy or also to eliminate them, shoot at them. Also try to scan around to reveal herbs that may help you in this mission. And try to aim carefully because wasting time can cost you, and you will start from the beggining of the mission if the creature is not defeated on time.

Jack Norman

Jack Norman, Norman, is a member of Veltro who injects himself with the T-Abyss virus because of his weird addiction to Bio-Terrorism. And he says he does it in the name of the Veltro association. He looks like an old drunk man and has a very Tyrant-like appearance. He does a little video while injecting himself as evidence.

Norman's main move is to turn invisible and teleport to you. You'll get a bit of a warning so be ready to shoot him. His arm swing is powerful enough to knock you on your ass, so if that happens, keep pressing the Y button to get up. He can also pick you up and skewer you if you let him get close enough. He has a long reach and just his arm hitting the ground can knock you down, so while he's winding up his attack, keep shooting him. Always aim for his heart/head/and back on a flower shaped place. Hitting his back will make it leak out some kind of orange liquid. Another trick he has is projecting a mirror image of himself. The real one will be the one with purple mist coming out of his mouth. There will be times when he creates a mirror image so that's the only thing you see, and then he'll pop up behind it as it vanishes. Try not to be fooled. The mirror image can't do any damage to you. If you turn around and try to run from it, chances are, the real Norman will get you from out of nowhere.

The fight is divided in several sections where he changes his actions:

First, he teleports himself in front of you, and he tries to do an arm swing, if you manage to hit him and stun him, he teleports away, then again several seconds back in front of you.

Second, now he doesn't just teleport in front of you, but also in the back of you, so it can be tricky.

Later, he teleports in the back of you and in the back of you too, but one of the images is real and the other is just some kind of illusion.

Hint: When this happens, if the one in the back is not breathing out some kind of gas, quickly turn around to see the real one, which is suppose to breath out purple gas. And shot!

After, He will teleport in front of you, one of the images you see is real, and the other one is fake.

Hint: Shoot the one with the Purple Gas coming out of its mouth!

Then, you will see lots of images coming out of nowhere continually in front of you doing an arm attack, most of then are fake.

Graphics and Animation

The game marks a large improvement in graphical style over its predecessor, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries. As well as superior graphics, Revelations includes animations that are far creepier than those from The Mercenaries. There are more 3D customisation, that consists of Normal, Strong, or Very Strong. The depth slider still works.

Reception

The game has been well received thus far, with a current has a Metascore of 84%. GamesMaster awarded it a score of 91%, stating that it it "One of the scariest games ever committed to handheld, and a spectacular return to form." However, more reviews are expected in over the next few weeks, so the average score may fluctuate.

It also received the Game of the Month award by Gameinformer.

Streetpass

Resident Evil: Revelations uses StreetPass to exchange items, missions, and zombies. It works in both single player and the unlockable multi-player Raid mode.

  • Pulse Grenade

This is grenade that stuns enemies with a quick flash for a short time, giving you time to finish them off.

  • Shock Grenade

Shock grenades are so vital in this game because its the only weapon that can be used underwater. Basically it shocks enemies that are near it. Good for killing enemies that are hidden underwater.
