Overview

The game comes with a 'Portal' and 3 figurines with every version of the game. You are able to use those 3 figurines, in-game, using the 'Portal'. You place the figurine onto the Portal and it will arrive in the game for you to use as a character, using the infrared. There are 32 (not including legenders)figurines, including Spyro, in total. You may purchase the other 29+ figurines if you wish to do so, which help you to complete more challenges to gather crystals. all figures work on all consoles

Gameplay

Unlike the console versions, the 3DS version is more of a Platformer. In this version, you are able to perform a Jump and a Double-Jump. You have to unlock levels, and to do so, you have to gather Crystals, to complete levels. There are many different ways of obtaining Crystals in a level, such as defeating a certain amount of enemies.

Plot

The villain named Kaos,(but in the 3ds game there is a villain called hektor) banishes the Skylanders to our world, frozen as figurines. You play the role of a Portal Master, making sure you get the figurines back to the Skylanders world.

Toys for the Bob was given the opportunity to revive Vivendi franchise, and they chose the Spyro the Dragon franchise. The games original working title was Spyro's Kingdom from June 2009. The game was going to be a mature game that included blood however the developers of Toys for Bob lost their enthusiasm and they did not think it felt like Spyro. They spent six months on a variety of different directions with Spyro, and with the time and budget given by Activision, Toys for Bob eventually came upon the idea of Skylanders. Jeff Poffenbarger executive producer stated that the game was more leaned towards younger games who have no prior knowledge of Spyro.

Sequel

There is a new skylanders game coming in fall 2012 it will be called skylanders giants. There will be 16 new figures, 8 will be normal skylanders then the other 8 will be the all new giants.
