High Voltage: We Have “Hundreds of Ideas” for 3DS

The developers behind The Conduit (and White Men Can’t Jump) briefly touch on their plans for the 3DS’ future.

Little by little, developers are stepping up and voicing their enthusiastic opinions about the Nintendo 3DS, each stepping up and offering optimism and assurance regarding their phantom development plans; It almost feels political at this point.

look aliens

This time, it’s Illinois developer High Voltage who has stepped up into the mic to lay down some 3D beats. Designer Bill Sullivan recently had a pow-wow with Official Nintendo Magazine regarding the upcoming handheld. Like previous developers, the buzzword here is “excitement” over the revolutionary 3D tech, with Sullivan going on to say that the development studio has “hundreds of ideas” for future game development. The whole studio seems quite passionate about their plans, further commenting that the 3DS’ technology isn’t just a simple step forward, but a “completely new path”.

High Voltage’s gaming history is a rather checkered one, having worked on licensed fodder such as Iron Man 2 and Ben 10, along with even more confusing contributions such as White Men Can’t Jump on the Atari Jaguar (which has often been regarded as the worst Jaguar game ever made, which is quite an accomplishment when viewing that system’s library of tragedies). Their most recent and recognizable work includes The Conduit on the Nintendo Wii. The first person shooter received critical praise for its smooth motion controls, but also negativity for an ultimately generic experience. Sales for the game were meager, but just decent enough for publisher Sega to officially announce a sequel.

yes we can

With no other details surrounding the sequel, could one of High Voltage’s hundreds of ideas involve a 3DS sequel for The Conduit? It certainly is an intriguing idea, with no other FPS games currently revealed for the handheld. But will eye-popping 3D visuals help mask overly generic gameplay, or will the studio manage to find its calling and create a solid contender that’s both pretty and fun to play with?
