Majesco Bring Two Games to the 3DS

Majesco Entertainment have just announced two new titles for the 3DS.

The first, Face Kart: Photo Finish is a Mario Kart style kart racing title, but with an extra gimmick to entice players. The game uses the 3DS’ camera to snap photos of players and map them on to their in game avatars. The customisation doesn’t stop there, however;  photography can also be mapped onto trackside billboards and even placed on power-ups.

The game can be further tweaked and customised with clothing and accessory choices for player avatars, plus tuning options for the game’s vehicles.

Face Kart also uses the 3DS’ internal motion sensor to control the cars; but will this work well in combination with the 3D effect?

Development is being handled by Renegade Kid, the independent studio behind technology-pushing DS shooters like Dementium and Moon.

Next up is Pet Zombies in 3D, which is a Nintendogs/Tamagotchi style affair with the cute animals replaced by the living dead. It sounds like a bizarre concept until you realise just how popular the current zombie craze is – we don’t doubt that there’s a market for this.

The game stars zombies with unique personalities and dietary requirements (just like other virtual pets) but also has some more exotic sounding features like “facial bone deformations,” and “variable decay.” Players are also promised the option to “mischievously torment” their undead charges, which sounds suspiciously like an oxymoron to me.

In addition to the main event, there will be undead themed minigames, including one using the accelerometer to roll zombie heads through a maze.

Development on this one is being handled by 1st Playable Productions, who normally specialise in licensed kids games for the DS.
