New Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions Video
Anyone got the fever for some classic arcade hits on 3D? Waka Waka Waka your way inside for the latest video preview.
Well, it’s nice to know at least one of Namco Bandai’s debut 3DS projects is releasing as scheduled. Despite delays for both Tales of the Abyss and One Piece: Unlimited Cruise SP (the latter delayed due to “varying circumstances” while the former was not given even the vaguest of reasons), their upcoming compilation of Pac-Man and Galaga games remains on course.
If the idea of paying full price for such ancient arcade games seems unattractive, perhaps this latest preview video will help steer you along:
The Japanese actor playing certainly seems into it, tilting his 3DS in all sorts of directions. If you’re wondering why the person playing isn’t affected by the 3D visuals breaking from such rampant re-positioning of the handheld, fret not; Pac-Man Tilt, the aptly named game demonstrated, does not actually feature 3D. Instead, that honor goes to Galaga 3D Impact another appropriately named title.
Both games have been made exclusively for the 3DS, but Namco isn’t stopping with just those two. In addition to including the original classic arcade versions of Pac-Man and Galaga (both which will feature 3D visual tricks to give players the impression that they’re playing the games using oldschool arcade cabinets), Dimensions will also include the recent remakes for both titles, Galaga Legions and Pac-Man Championship Edition. While folks may be disappointed that it isn’t the DX version of Championship Edition being packaged (praised by many as the single best release of 2010, mentioned in the same breath as big budget titles Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption), there’s still plenty of fun to be had with this version of Pac-Man as well.
Pac-Man and Galaga Dimensions will be hitting Japan on June 23rd, followed by a May release in North America and an undetermined Summer date for Europe.
