New Super Mario Bros. 2 Gets Four ‘9’ Scores From Famitsu

Which means it’s rather good, you know. Also, Japanese commercials!

Usually we have to sit around twiddling our thumbs as we wait for a new Super Mario title. But Nintendo are keeping the 3DS momentum going and ensuring a gaming summer drought is nothing but a bad memory, as New Super Mario Bros. 2 is but a few weeks from release.

In Japan, of course, they need only wait until July 28th. They’re lucky like that.

Andriasang have reported a translated list of review scores among all formats in Japanese gaming publication extraordinaire, Famitsu. Within the hallowed pages of this videogame tome, New Super Mario Bros. has been awarded a quadruple-pack of ”9″ scores, the hallmark of a quality title indeed.

Also on 3DS, Cave Story 3D gleaned 8, 8, 7, 7 and Kobito Zukan scored a review tally of 7, 6, 6, 6. Famitsu apparently operates a four-person review team, so these numbers for each title indicate a given reviewer’s opinion. And everyone loves Mario!

The only game to beat Mario’s triumph (which admittedly tied for second with HD consoles’ Persona 4 Arena) was a PSP title, Super Danganronpa 2. It scored 10, 9, 9, 9. Bah!

But hey, that’s not all! Andriasang have also got their hands on some New Super Mario Bros. 2 commercials from Japan. And really, who doesn’t love Japanese commercials?

Watch out for the terrifyingly ginormous Boo... why, that’s the second biggest Boo head we’ve ever seen!

There’s also some nice footage of the ways in which sibling rivalry between the Mario fratelli can erupt. Often in outright orchestrated manslaughter, apparently. Ah, New Super Mario Bros., where would we be without your capacity to make scoundrels out of us all?

And look! 3DS XL! Sumptuous!

The second commercial in the video embed is more trailer-ish in nature, showing off some awesome gameplay. Including White Tanooki Mario cheerfully demolishing a Thwomp with his face. Don’t mess with White Tanooki Mario!

There’s also a madcap chase through the castle as Koopa Kids pursue in the background, crammed into the Koopa Klown Kar. Ugh! Curse you, hype-increasing Japanese commercials! We can’t stand the excitement!

      • Liam says:

Oh come on. It is merely a rehash of New Super Mario Bros. At least Super Mario Galaxy 2 was incredible and surpassed the original. New handheld Mario games are poor beyond belief. Just gaze upon Super Mario 3D Land – it was terrible in comparision to the greats a la Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, etc.
