Project LovePlus Features a “Boyfriend Lock”
Konami’s virtual dating simulator sports a camera-based “logon” feature that has your 3D girlfriend recognizing you by face.
Konami’s unique dating sim Project LovePlus will reportedly take advantage of the 3DS’s inner camera as a personalized login system of sorts, to ensure that your simulated virtual girlfriend doesn’t accidentally cheat on you. If someone other than yourself grabs your copy of Project LovePlus, your girlfriend will fail to recognize the “thief’s” face and will say things along the lines of “Who are you?” (though we imagine it might get a little more rude than that. Just a little.).
It’s a clever feature not unlike the webcam-based login systems some newer laptops sport, except that it will feel far more personal and engaging to (presumably) have a 3D girl greet you at the mere sight of your face. Perhaps she’ll even comment on the unshaven beard you’ve grown, or your new hairdo.
Not much is known about Project LovePlus at this point – we don’t even know if it will ever see the light outside of Japan – but Konami have previously released a trailer for it that mostly gives you an idea of how the game’s gyro functionality and 3D effects will look. It actually looks fairly impressive; so if you do end up buying this game, don’t blame us if you spend so much time with it that you forget to find some love in your real life.

People don’t seem to get that dating sims are an established genre in Japan… Never played a typical one, but social links in Persona were actually quite fun.
As for “maybe she’ll comment on your newly grown beard,” probably not. If the player grows a beard she’ll probably think he’s a rapist.
If anything it will stay in japan…
