Pure Nintendo’s 48 Hour Game Marathon Raising Funds For ABTA

Pure Nintendo are going to get their game on to raise vital funds for the American Brain Tumor Association, and in loving memory of a good friend lost. You can help be involved, be it gaming, donations or both!

Friendships. They’re what define us, what help motivate us, and what help shape us as people. Losing friends is hard to do, especially when they pass away in the prime of life. Here at 3DS Buzz, we were moved and stunned by the generosity being shown by Pure Nintendo recently, and we felt compelled to tell you of the Nintendo-themed fundraising event they’re holding to help raise funds for the American Brain Tumor Association.

Pure Nintendo are no strangers to charity events, and have in the past turned their Nintendo moxie to helping Child’s Play and helping to promote other gaming events aiding the likes of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mario Kart Wii

Turns out you can do all this, AND make a positive difference to people's lives!

Pure Nintendo have announced a 48-hour gaming marathon, focusing on the cream of the Nintendo Wii online multiplayer crop. Kicking off on August 20th 2011, 7PM ET and lasting right through until August 22nd, the Pure Nintendo team will be accepting donations via an integrated ChipIn widget and broadcasting the gaming goods all the while using their LiveStream, which is also integrated in the main webpage for the event.

They’ve also begun putting up Friend Codes for various games, listed below, onto their site, for those of you who fancy taking on the team. The full schedule seems like quite a comprehensive list of Nintendo Wii’s greatest multiplayer hits, and it’s not every day you could have the chance to not only play alongside the fine folk responsible for a top Nintendo fansite, and not only have that broadcast live online (so be sure to bring your best skills!), but also have that all directly contribute to the fundraising effort.

Below is the list of titles on the schedule for the big event, kicking off this evening. Not all Friend Codes are up and running at the time of writing, but expect these to be updated in due course.

*All games and times are subject to change and adjustments. Pure Nintendo is willing to take suggestions for games to be played.

For those of you outside the allocated timezone, there are plenty of timezone converters to be easily found online, allowing you to find out when to tune in, when to join in or when you plan to make a donation.

Cancer affects one in three people, and although treatments are helping those living with it live longer, more fulfilling lives, there are still no outright cures and it’s a complicated, difficult thing for anyone to have to live with. ABTA, the American Brain Tumor Association, are consistently working to fund research, enrich the lives of tumour patients and work towards the next big breakthrough in diagnosing, treating and ultimately one day outright curing the disease.

Pure Nintendo’s original intention for the event was to help raise funds for Daniel Harper, who after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in the prime of his life showed tremendous courage, dignity and commitment to remaining positive for friends and family alike. Treatments for his condition saw him traversing the length and breadth of the United States (his story can be read here), and with the support of friends, family and his loving wife, things seemed to be going as well as they could be.

Pure Nintendo’s 48 Hour Nintendo Gaming Marathon was intended to raise funds to help pay for Daniel’s cancer treatment.

Yet tragically, Daniel Harper passed away on August 7th, 2011 at 11pm. He was in his twenties, full of life and very loved by friends and family alike. As a gesture of commemoration, Pure Nintendo have decided to continue with the marathon anyway, to donate money to ABTA and to show their solidarity for a good friend lost.

It’s a tragic truth to swallow, of that there can be no doubt. But you can help be a part of celebrating Daniel’s life, and in helping Pure Nintendo reach their goals. Whether you want to game against the team, donate however much or little as you can to help his family come to terms with their loss (with all funds going directly to ABTA), or just want to tune in and watch gamers game for good causes, Pure Nintendo are sure to appreciate your time, encouragement and support.

Keep an eye on the website for more details and a full live stream throughout the weekend, or email charity@purenintendo.com if you’ve got any questions or messages of support for the team.

3DS Buzz wish Pure Nintendo and all involved the best of luck in this epic feat, and hope they can exceed their goals in support and donations alike!

  5. Mariomaster1 says:

    “Friendships. They’re what define us, what help motivate us, and what help shape us as people.” Man that really reminds me of the one saying written in Unown script located on the wall of Solaceon Ruins bottom floor, this script reads:

    Friendship.
    All lives touch other lives to create something anew and alive.

    I shall always remember that saying…….on a side note I think it’s great they are helping people through gaming. Seriously, video games rule!

  6. Mariomaster1 says:

    Also, a student who went to my school died because she had multiple Brian Tumors….and despite having surgery done, she still died :(. Yeah, she surely will be remembered by many, and it just goes to show how cruel life is……R.I.P

  7. PhoenixTable says:

    @Mariomaster1
    I’m sorry for your loss, I wish the best of luck to you, her family, and her friends.

  9. Kevin11 says:

    @Mariomaster1
    That has to be sad:(No one ever died in my school…bet there teachers and there friends had lots of tears:(

  10. Mariomaster1 says:

    @Kevin11
    Yeah it really sucked; she was so full of energy…..and in the end she didn’t even get to graduate. I can only image how much of a major hit to the heart her boyfriend received. On the plus side though, shortly after her death my school, being of the catholic kind, held a walkathon for Brian Tumor research….I’m not exactly sure what association it was raising money for though. Regardless, history is history and it couldn’t be helped sadly……hopefully one day in the future there will be a way to get rid of tumors that is flawless, same goes for a cure for cancer…..but, one can only dream for now.

  11. Mariomaster1 says:

    @PhoenixTable
    Thanks…..and I feel it only be right give you my sympathy for any loss you may have received due to tumors of any kind, if any may exist. If none due, then hopefully none shall appear in the future at any time.

    ok bye..

  20. Krappy Klobb says:

    Unless this thing is America-only, Excitebots is a very stupid game to have on the list because it hasn’t been released in some countries yet (like Australia).

  21. Justin says:
