Tales of the Abyss, 3DS Top Japanese Sales Charts
Namco Bandai’s RPG remake inspires Nintendo’s handheld to outsell Sony’s, though just barely.

Yay! We're number one!
It’s another strong week in sales for the 3DS in the Land of the Rising Sun. Nintendo’s portable has sold 30,233 units (up from the previous week’s 27,905), beating back Sony’s Playstation Portable for the top spot in the hardware sales charts. It was a close call though as the PSP shifted 29,871 units; a mere 362 sales behind the 3DS.
This shift in console fortunes is largely due to the debut of Tales of the Abyss for the 3DS which stormed to the top of the Japanese software charts. It sold 74,173 copies, double that of the highest charting PSP game of the week, To Heart 2 Dungeon Travelers (also in it’s debut week), which moved 37,396 units.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D continues to sell well into it’s third week on the charts, placing in the sixth place with a respectable sales tally of 24,190.
The only other Nintendo presence in the top ten was Golden Eye 007 for the Wii, of all things. Published by Ubisoft over there, it’s still riding high in fourth position, selling 36,174 copies this week. This is particularly surprising given the Japanese’s aversion to first person shooters and Western-developed games in general.
