The 3DS has 25,000 free US WiFi hotspots waiting for it
Live in the US? Soon, your 3DS will have Internet access (almost) everywhere you go.
To make up for the lack of 3G access in the 3DS – which was among the first batch of rumours we heard about the handheld – Nintendo have been busy striking deals all over the world to provide free WiFi hotspots for it.
According to a fresh press release, there will be more than 25,000 such hotspots available all over the US. Among them are about 200 Simon malls, over 1,000 Best Buy stores, and another 24,000 or so of AT&T’s existing hotspots, which can be found in many coffee shops, airports, and stores.
Starting on June 7th, a day that any 3DS Buzz reader has probably heard a great deal about by now, you’ll be able to make use of all these free access points by simply coming within range of them with your 3DS. Don’t forget to leave your wireless switch on!
Now, all we need is to hear about a similar deal in Canada…

why wont they do this in the uk?!
Wish they’d do this in the UK! And even if they did, I’d be doubtful that they’d do much for Northern Ireland …
yay is all i can put into words….and into songhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKeMCXKSk5c
You gave away the xstylus awnser…
Sweet.
The German DOA:D package has a sticker with the text “Ready for HotSpot http://www.t-com.de/hotspot” on it, so I guess Europe doesn’t get left out either.
@noje I believe they teamed up with BT to get access to BTopenzone and BTFON wifi networks for free
you can already find free wi-fi everywhere

U S A!!! U S A!!!
What about australia
Still, the 3DS IS SO COOL!
what about here in puerto rico!? it’s us soil ya know.
They are supposedly giving this update in the UK as well but no specifics on where the hotspots will be and how many there are. I’d be betting on substantially less than in the US.
They always do the same thing. They’re looking for solutions to non-existing problems. Everyone was reaaaally bummed out when it was revealed that the 3DS can’t support youtube. “In the near future, you will be able to download the Nintendo Video application, providing access to a range of exciting video content right on your Nintendo 3DS system. View specially selected 3D movie trailers, comedy clips and music videos, all downloaded using the SpotPass feature.” I don’t want movie trailers or music videos, I want youtube damn it! How many people HAVE gotten the 3DS anyways? Have they said anything?
They probably put them mostly in places like New York, Atlanta, etc. Its gonna be one bar wifi all the way. Still better than nothing.
Do they have them in australia?
wow they alredy did smart one
