Hiya folks! This, i'm sure, has baffled nearly everyone: What is the purpose of the end of the McFlurry spoon which is square? And also the use for the clip-thingy? [IMG]People say it's used for a straw, but that leaves 2 questions: Why is it square shaped? And why has it only got a hole (5mm-ish) in the middle of it?

Some people also say that the whole thing is designed so that the spoon can clip on to a machine, the flavour of the McFlurry (eg. Crunchie, smarties) can be filled in the squarey bit and you have your flavour. But the questions would be: Why? And the only exit once entered inside the spoon is that small hole; which not very many things fit through! :p

And if anyone works/has worked at McDonalds, could you perhaps provide an answer for us all? :) :D

    I read this.....
"When they mix the M&Ms or Oreo into the ice cream in the McFlurry the clip holds it on the machine that mixes it with the spoon."

I've always wondered this too. Maybe it keeps little kids amused for five minutes?

Yep, my mom went to help McDonald's for a charity thing. She had to make McFlurries. There's a part of the machine which goes into the spoon and the spoon clips to it. Then it stirs, and you have a McFlurry! Before this, I was always confuzzled by the Great Mystery of the McFlurry Spoon....

Or, the spoon can be used as a tent stake holder, as I have found via Le Internet. [IMG]

Yep, this is the correct answer. My wife used to work at McDonalds and can verify this. We've not been in a McDonalds that has actually done this for a few years now, though. All of our nearby restaurants always just take the spoon and give it a quick mix by hand. Problem is, that doesn't whip it at all like the machine does and doesn't mix the chocolate pieces in very well, thus making a very bad McFlurry.

It's not only in Mcflurries you know...there is a thing called a Friend-Z y'know. Anywho, I knew it wasn't a straw...fairly obvious. Yea, it seems lodgical that it's for flavoring.

Maybe it's only an American thing? Here in the UK they're mixed well.

I live in the UK too :p We've been to all of our nearby McDonald's and they all only do it by hand instead of with the machine. If they're using the machine at your local restaurants, then we'll have to see if we can put a complaint in with our locals.

Just 1 question: Why are we having a thread about this? It's pretty pointless...

Anyway, I've never had a mcflurrie, but the picture of the spoon is very weird.

I quite like that sppon. It means you can suck McFlurry up into it and shoot it at your friends and thereby start a 'McFlurry War". That actually happened once...
